WHAT FOUNDERS GET WRONG ABOUT GROWTH

Every founder I've worked with can tell you their growth numbers. Fewer can tell you, without hesitating, why the growth needs to happen at the pace they're chasing.

That gap is where burnout lives. Growth pursued as an end in itself has no natural stopping point and no internal compass — it simply demands more, indefinitely, until something breaks. Usually it's the founder.

“Growth pursued as an end in itself has no natural stopping point — it simply demands more, indefinitely.”

The healthiest companies I've watched scale did so in service of something more specific than 'bigger': a problem they were determined to solve properly, a standard they refused to compromise, a group of people they felt responsible to. The growth followed. It was rarely the point.

Before your next planning cycle, it's worth asking the uncomfortable version of the growth question: growth toward what, specifically, and at what cost to the people executing it?
